Short for Street Art, is an exciting, dynamic, and ever evolving program in which local artists engage children and youth

Street Art for Youth

st.ART, short for Street Art, is an ever evolving program in which local artists engage children and youth from Winnipeg’s Inner City in a wide & diverse range of art forms. Workshops include various visual art, music, and dance workshops that are provided free throughout Winnipeg’s Downtown and North End communities.

With all of our gallery exhibitions, we offer corresponding art workshops for youth! Each workshop is unique to our current exhibition and is formed around the themes, mediums or concepts being explored in the show. Groups of youth can join us onsite at the gallery to experience the artwork and create their pieces, or you can book GAP to visit you at an offsite location. With these workshops, youth have the opportunity to showcase their work alongside the exhibition in a designated Kids Gallery. Through this platform, youth can explore new ideas, experiment with different materials, and share their experiences with a wider audience.

Select workshops are facilitated by the exhibiting artists, and serve to connect youth with knowledgeable mentors and creative communities.

Explore our virtual puppet show, "Pivoting Puppets" - a project in collaboration with participants from Ralph Brown Community Centre and Pritchard Park during summer of 2023's st.ART program. "Pivoting Puppets" is a project that combines both physical puppet making and a virtual medium. Participants crafted individual puppets formed out of foam and fasteners, which would later be stop-motion animated and displayed in virtual form. As of Sept 22 2023, the handmade puppets featured in GAP's "Pivoting Puppets" can be viewed in person beneath the rail underpass on Forks Market road in Winnipeg MB. By following the link, or scanning the provided QR codes in our display at the Forks, explore the creative collision between art and virtual reality via four unique experiences.
