3D World

3D world is an online world that merges creative visions of youth with augmented reality (AR) and virtual reality (VR) created in Summer 2024 st.ART Programming. These web-based interventions reimagine neglected or damaged spaces in Winnipeg’s North End. Participants from Ralph Brown Community Centre and Flora House transformed these neglected spaces into dreamscapes, imaginary landscapes that encapsulate the ambitious visions of neighborhood transformation.

Using a 360 degree camera, we captured locations and overlay creations across the virtual world. During drop-in mini-projects, drawings and designs were produced and captured as assets in AR/VR experiences. These projects included texture and pattern based activities to collage into the virtual world like zentangles, mandalas, doodle pages, stamp making, and paper marbling.

“Rollercoasters, slides, and theme park rides!”

Imagine a new park to play in and a pool to cool off in. A place to gather with your friends and family to make memories. These thoughts were shared by st.ART participants as they dreamed of ways to change their neighbourhood and create more connection in the community.

“A racetrack on school ground”

Participants imaged a race car track activating the outdoor space across from Ralph Brown Community Centre. Cars were crafted using collage to form vibrant vehicles bringing this setting to life.

“Brainstorm Doodles”

Participants at Ralph Brown Community Centre and Flora House used their creative minds to imagine new parks and places to explore using existing spaces in their neighbourhoods. To generate ideas and inspirations, participants did activities like brainstorm doodles and dice games.

Explore the dreams in 3D World 3!

Through the 360-degree skybox, users are able to explore these reimagined spaces virtually, juxtaposing the reality of the locations and the students’ dreams.
