Norquay Mural Scavenger Hunt
The Norquay Mural Scavenger Hunt project was made by participants at Studio 5 and Norquay Community Centre during Spring 2024. The project started with a series of workshops designed to generate ideas for the project’s theme, symbiosis and create connections between symbiosis in nature and the Point Douglas community.
Workshops included nature puppets, sketching from reference images, an outdoor photo scavenger hunt, collaborative drawing games with prompts, creating North Point Douglas community maps, nature journals, comic strips, and planting a garden box of Manitoba wildflowers followed by outdoor water colour painting of the flowers. During these projects, participants learnt about Manitoba’s unique ecosystem and how they can help grow and preserve it.
Following the initial workshop, participants painted several murals panels with Manitoba wildflowers and pollinators (bees and butterflies). These murals are intended to interact with each other, and were installed along the fences at Norquay Community Centre as a community art piece. A booklet was created, and distributed around the community to celebrate the project, and included details on the making of the mural, artwork and activity pages developed by participants, and clues to locate the murals.
Follow these clues to start having fun!
The murals can be found along the fences of our favourite place, Norquay Community Centre. You can find them at locations where we love to play, that bring people together and where we create. Happy Hunting!
