Pritchard Park Mural

The Pritchard Park Mural was created during programming in the Summer of 2022/2023 with participants from Pritchard Park. During weekly drop-in programming, participants brainstormed elements they would like to see on the mural, inspired by what they love most about their neighbourhood. Participant drawings were digitized and combined into the two wall mural.

The mural was made in partnership with the William Whyte Neighbourhood Association, providing distinct signage and visibility for the recreation centre at Pritchard Park.

To celebrate the painting progress, GAP hosted a community feast for staff, participants and community members where Elder Barbra Nepinak offered a blessing for the project.

The feast provided opportunities for participants and community members to discuss how they want their community to be presented through the mural project.

The Pritchard Park mural was made by GAP as part of the Art as Action Mural Series. Art as Action is GAP’s effort to use art as to bring attention to the Truth and Reconciliation Committees 94 Calls to Action.

The Pritchard Park Mural represents Call to Action #66: “We call upon the federal government to establish multi-year funding for community-based youth organizations to deliver programs on reconciliation, and establish a national network to share information and best practices.”
